SharpshooterINSIGHT

Shooting is really easy. Keep the sights in alignment while smoothly and continuously squeezing the trigger, so as not to disturb the sight alignment, as the firearm releases the shot.  This would give you a perfect shot every time; wouldn’t you agree?  So if shooting is this easy, why is it so difficult for some to shoot with precision and accuracy?

The instructional process for teaching someone how to shoot can be broken down into two components: physical skills and mental skills.  Physical skills make up 20% of the process and mental skills comprise 80%.

The mindset, motivation, and learning model of college educated recruits is incongruent with the paramilitary model or the “drill Sergeant” approach.  Inducing stress during the critical stages of learning actually inhibits the learning process and hinders retention.  It also demeans the individual and reduces their motivation to excel or even their desire to shoot.

I believe anyone can be a great shot or sharpshooter with the proper mindset.  I would like to share with you a secret weapon I’ve learned over the course of my training and experience in law enforcement.  One of the keys of setting up the learning experience is to prepare your mind, so that you can perform or handle your weapon with ease. To do this we can utilize hypnosis to bypass the part of the conscious mind that creates an aversion to the firing process, handling a weapon or even intimidation stressors induced by training personnel.
